Czech Republic:
The Czech Republic, once part of Czechoslovakia, feels shaped by its years under communist rule. In Prague or Brno, you see elegant historical buildings next to heavy concrete blocks built during the Soviet period. The contrast is sharp, and it tells the story of a country caught between tradition and imposed modernity. The memory of the Prague Spring and the years of censorship and control are still part of the national identity. Yet, the Velvet Revolution in 1989 showed how quickly change could come. Today, the country feels modern and European, but the traces of the USSR remain in the urban landscape and in collective memory.
